JAN 28, 2018 - SOPHIE
On the 25th January 2018, Phil McGrath (one of our group’s loyal members!) held a sushi workshop as he transformed Caffi Te a Cofi into a Japanese restaurant. Phil and Ifan were busy preparing 4kg of rice, as well as vegetables and prawns beforehand, and then the attendees were introduced to sushi – what it is, some background history and how to go about preparing it!
Everyone was then given their own preparing station, ‘Nori’ (seaweed) paper and Makisu (bamboo mat) with the opportunity to put Phil’s instructions into action! The fun began, rolling, filling and slicing the avocado and cucumber sushi (with optional prawn), before attempting to eat them using ‘chopsticks’! Phil was praised for his presenting skills and easygoing nature, and at the end of the evening we had a café full of happy individuals, full to the brim!
“It was great to see how many had come to support, even some having travelled from Denbigh and Pwllheli, and others as young as twelve! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening but it was also an eye-opener, I hadn’t realised the amount of work that goes into preparing food for 30 people – it’s a miracle that no rice was burnt with five saucepans on the go at once!” – Phil McGrath We’d like to thank all of you who bought tickets and made the evening such fun, and especially to GISDA once again for allowing the use of their resources. Also a huge thanks to everyone who supplied the placemats for the workstations and to Rownd a Rownd for the Japanese props! Phil would like to extend an extra thanks to some of his Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon Food Festival group co-members – Ifan, Menna and Nici who helped him put on the show. We raised £260 for Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon Food Festival 2018 – a very respectable sum! Our next event to add some more to the pot is the Curry Competition – Friday 8th of February 2018, 7.30pm at Feed my lambs. Further information here.
