OCT 09, 2017 - SOPHIE
‘Cawl a Chân’ (Soup and Song) at Caernarfon Sailing Club was the first event of the Caernarfon Food Festival 2018 events’ programme. With a cost of £25,000 to stage the Festival, fund-raising events are necessary to support the arrangements. As the Festival’s venue in 2018 is developing to include the Prom and Victoria Dock area, hosting a night at the Sailing Club was a natural choice and thanks to Monica, Club Steward, for her welcome and readiness to facilitate arrangements. All tickets were sold and audience members who arrived early, enjoyed the iconic view of the sunset over the Foryd. Another development for 2018 will be to work with Syr Hugh Owen School’s ‘A’ Level ‘Photography’ pupils. They will record all events and the Festival itself in pictures and thanks to Bo and Mari along with their cameras for joining us on the night. For the ‘soup’ Ifan, Gisda (thanks for their support) had prepared leek soup for vegetarians as well as the popular lobsgóws that is served daily in ‘Te a Cofi’ cafe on the Maes. Many people had ‘seconds’ with some opting for a third helping also. Thanks to companies who sponsored the refreshments namely Ffrwythau DJ, Porthmadog, Harlech Food Service, O G Williams, Caernarfon and Coulton Bread, Caernarfon. The highlight of the evening was a performance by Alys Williams to the guitar accompaniment of Osian Williams. The compact dimensions of the room were well-suited to an acoustic set, and there was an excellent response to slow, reflective and more lively, energetic songs. The enjoyment and appreciation of the audience were obvious and an ‘encore’ was inevitable. At the end of the evening there was a response from both artists. Osian said, “This has been a very successful event at the Sailing Club, Caernarfon; a lovely evening. The place is incredible to play – very intimate.” Alys stated, “I’ve really enjoyed tonight. It’s great to have an audience that listens to and enjoys what we do; we really have enjoyed. It’s been such a lovely evening and thank you for the opportunity.“ Future events: 4th November: The Food Festival Committee provides refreshments on the Prom at Caernarfon Fireworks evening.
