APR 04, 2018 - SOPHIEIf you read our previous statement, or if you’ve perhaps seen some of the festival posters around town, you will know that we are expanding this year to new and exciting locations! Like the 2016 and ’17 festivals, Pool Street, the Maes and Palace Street will continue to be a part of the event. But, rather than flowing down to Cei Llechi as usual, the stalls will expand and continue down from the Maes past Pendeitsh towards the Anglesey Arms and then down the Prom past Porth yr Aur and the Sailing Club. The main entertainment stage, our street food stalls and bars will be found down on the marina by the Dockmaster’s office. The cooking demonstrations will, this year, be held on the other side of the marina by the Gwynedd Archives building and there will be a special event held in the Castle (entry to the Castle will be free on the day). Further details of chefs and main stage artists to be announced soon! The above and below drawings have been designed for us in an attempt to show how it is expected the festival will look in 2018 in its new locations! Many thanks to Iestyn Tyne for being prepared to create these for us.
Other stages will be found at the top of Pool Street (where the town’s choirs will be entertaining), outside Bar Bach (under the care of Gwilym Bowen Rhys), and in the Anglesey Arms and Market Hall (under the care of Sera). There will therefore be music to your ears wherever you may be at the festival! The popular animal pen will continue on one side of Cei Llechi by the Harbourmaster’s Office, and children’s cooking and workshops led by Luned Rhys Parri and Lisa Fearn will be held at the old NatWest building on the Maes (thanks to GISDA). Considering the geographical size of this year’s festival and the fact that it will host over 100 stalls as well as all the other events, we will need many more volunteers than in the past!
As the festival grows, it will become increasingly difficult for the organisers to continue to hold it and keep admittance free of charge. We therefore very kindly ask that the people of the Caernarfon vicinity (and further afield!) give just a couple of hours of their day to help us during the festival! The work is neither difficult nor heavy but extremely valuable to us in ensuring the day’s successful running. If you can help, please contact us on 01286 672943, by e-mailing gwylfwydcaernarfon@gmail.com or by sending a Facebook or Twitter message.
We sincerely appreciate any offers to assist. Many thanks beforehand! Back to the news page. |
