18th of November, 2023Groups come together to celebrate Christmas
Christmas is a busy time in Caernarfon, with various groups and businesses holding events to celebrate the festive season. In the past there have been Christmas fairs held in the Market Hall and in the Old Courthouse, and an annual Christmas fair has been part of Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon and Galeri Caernarfon’s calendar for a few years now. But this year the groups are coming together to hold one big market to bring the festive spirit to Caernarfon. The market will be held across 5 locations, from one end of the town to the other, and the organizers hope it will increase footfall and encourage visitors to enjoy what local businesses have to offer while traveling from one location to the other. According to Osian from Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon: "We hope that the event will make the best use of all our resources. "Instead of organizing and promoting a handful of Christmas markets and having a smaller number of visitors visit each fair, we thought it would be much better to have a joint-up approach and organise one larger-scale Christmas market that would command the whole town centre for a day. "It means that we will avoid duplicating stallholders, we won’t be competing for the same visitors, and we won’t confuse people with different dates, as has happened in the past. "We also hope that holding the market across 5 locations will increase footfall in the town itself. By walking from Galeri to the Market Hall, on to the Old Courthouse before walking down to Cei Llechi and the Railway Station, people will walk through the town centre, past businesses and independent shops that need all the support they can get. "We are also aware that Christmas is a busy period for everyone, and coming together to create one large market means that there is more time for people to enjoy other festive activities that are organised in the town, such as Hwb’s Christmas event, for example. "In addition to the market itself, a choir will perform in Galeri, there will be Christmas music across the venues as well as a Santa's grotto on a carriage in the train station. A slot with Santa will be available to book online soon, so keep an eye on Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon’s social media." The Market will be held at Galeri Caernarfon, Market Hall, the Old Courthouse, Cei Llechi, and Welsh Highland Railway’s station on 18 November between 10:30 and 16:00.
